Music festivals are events that are held throughout the year, through various concepts that feature dozens of different musical styles. It is however in summer that the largest festivals of the country happen, and Porto, as the second largest city, houses some of these.
We believe that it is part of the mission of Yours GuestHouse & Bistro to announce the events that take place in the city of Porto in order to make our city as dynamic as possible. So we presente the list of the 5 biggest music festivals in Porto.
NOS Primavera Sound
Located in the largest urban park in the country, NOS Primavera Sound is the Portuguese counterpart of the renowned Spanish Primavera Sound festival. Following the guidelines of this one, it is an indie-themed festival with strong bet in new bands but also with prominence for national artists already with established careers. In spite of being recent, it is already a reference when it comes to music festivals in Porto, and it’s even recognized by all europe.
Headliners: Bon Iver, Aphex Twin, Justice.
When: 8 a 10 June, Parque da Cidade in Matosinhos.
MEO Mares Vivas
Born in 1999, it is now one of the largest festival references in the north of the country. Featuring various musical styles, from rock to electronic music, artists perform on three stages along the bank of the Douro River, in Vila Nova de Gaia.
Headliners: Sting, Scorpions, Bastille, Expensive Soul.
When: 14 a 16 July, Vila Nova de Gaia.
EDP Beach Party
Celebrating its 10th edition in 2017, the EDP Beach Party is organized by the popular radio station of Porto, Radio Nova Era. Following the trends established by the station, electronic music is the guaranteed dish, making the delight of all those who move to the beach of Leça da Palmeira.
Headliners: Hardwell, Martin Garrix.
When: 30 June and 1 July, Leça da Palmeira beach in Matosinhos.
Queima das Fitas Porto – “Noites da Queima”
A Queima das Fitas of Porto is a set of innumerable sporting and cultural activities that aims to celebrate several moments of the academic life. The “Noites da Queima” are a set of concerts throughout the week, such as a festival, which take place in a place next to the city park in Matosinhos. The academic federation of Porto indicates that it is the largest academic festival in the country and the second largest in the city, in terms of music festivals in Porto.
Headliners: James Arthur, Kaiser Chiefs, Juan Magan.
When: 7 to 13 May near beach of Matosinhos
Caixa Ribeira is a fado festival that takes place annually in the city of the invicta in the area of the river. With renowned fado singers, all the editions are loaded with incredible unique moments that dedicate the festival as an event of name in the country, as far as fado is concerned.
By 2017, the line-up, as well as the official dates, have not yet been enunciated, however this usually happens at the beginning of June.
